Hi Peeps
Switched on the 550 yesterday and the screen just freezes and cannot navigate anywhere
It switches on and off OK, pass the initial warning screen explaining and then stops on the 1st screen "Where to? / View Map"
It aslo flickers in these two boxes?
Any ideas?
Is there a magic resent button?
Thanks in advance

Re: Zumo 550 stuck screen
If its locked you need to remove the battery, then I *think* when you turn the device on you press in the bottom right corner of the screen to do a reset. For more (and possibly more accurate information) on the zumoforums website

Re: Zumo 550 stuck screen
sound like what happened to mine
if all the resets fail to make it work
I'm pretty sure it's the screen and digitiser at fault
cost me £59.00 including fitting
excellent service and quick too

Re: Zumo 550 stuck screen
press the right hand corner of the screen with a finger while powering on.
Keep finger on screen as it starts - remove finger from power button.
Follow on screen prompts.

Thanks peeps
I tried the reset but I got so far and the screen prompts don't operate
I think its the screen digitizer
Thanks for the links - I should be able to get this fixed

OK, I had this earlier this year, it's not as bad as you'd think.Paul-S wrote: I think its the screen digitizer
You can purchase new screen/digitizer combos from ebay for a few quid (think mine was £12ish). I did and set about the repair (I trained as an instrument tech so I'm comfortable with this stuff)..
The first thing you need is a set of long shaft Torx drivers (think it's a T6 from memory), by long shaft I mean at least 30mm from the end to the first step. Maplin sell a pocket kit for a few quid (£2 or 3) with some Torx and Jewlers screwdrivers.
Took the Battery off, the top and bottom covers and removed the memory card. Then I removed the screws. It comes apart very easy, but there is a ribbon connector that holds the screen to the unit, you need to release the connector to unlock the cable. Be careful not to damage the water seal.
Now, here's where my problem was. The ribbon cable had worked a little loose and there was some dark deposits. I cleaned them up, reassembled and tested it. It's still working today.
So, before you buy a new screen or send it off, have a look yourself - unless you have fingers the size of rolling pins, in that case I'd ask someone a little more nimble!
