and yes I am old school so always wave at bikers or stop to help those with a problem. Reckon the ones that dont wave back are either kids or born again bikers who have lost touch or as a previous said scared to lift their hands off the bar.
Also might say its sad that folk have got away from the brotherhood/bikers code thing.

On a side note, I got a mutual nod on me way home from work today from a scooter girl, in a skirt and a loose cardy (her, not me!) with a hooj pair of... brown eyes - made my day ;)

I always nod to bikers regardless of what they ride. However I usually find scooter riders don't nod back. I think to a lot of scooter riders it isn't a lifestyle its just a form of transport so maybe they're not even aware?

I always acknowledge, usually nod, occasionally wave or leg dangle.

Strange thing is, if I'm on the S1000RR least waves back come from GS riders (often in Hi Viz jackets), I can almost see them looking down at me from their soap box. (which does btw come out more often than 5 or 6 times a year.)

If I'm on the GS I get more nods back from the 'plastic rockets' than the other way round. Reading some of the comments in this thread I understand that now.

Well said!

Also worth pointing out that if someone doesn't nod at you/back at you don't let it ruin your day, it's no big deal and might just be the rider is concentrating on his/her ride and not you or that he/she nodded while you weren't looking - you were of course 100% focused on your ride and the road not a riders nodding/non-nodding head ;)

Had a cracking few hours out with a a mate of mine (IAM instructor) this morning and we had a progressive run mainly around backlanes, mid-morning onward there were loads of bikes about in certain areas (it was sunny!) and I know for sure I don't nod at every rider in a long line. Some of the roads had difficult shadows, gravel and pot holes and I know I missed a few nodding opportunities, apologies if one was you, I was concentrating on my ride B)

When I'm on the bike I usually nod, and TBH I'm not unduly bothered whether I get one in return, but while talking nodding or indeed any other form of recognition but what boils my blood is when I'm driving the car or van is the bikes that think that I've indicated and pulled hard left to let them by because it's their absolute right, with no nod wave or dangly foot or kiss my ase.
What is sad is that this arrogant ignorant behavior seems to be happening more often, and to be honest the more it happens I think the less motorists will give them road space to pass.
It's all fine and well saying that the rider is too scared to lift a hand off of their handlebar; although god help them if their visor steams up, or it needs a wipe. The other excuses being that the rider might be concentrating, although if they fail to see a signal to pass they obviously aren't doing that either, however personally I don't see why they can't either give a nod or a foot dangle to let the driver know that their efforts are appreciated, and lets not get started on the vizzy revolution that seems to have taken over the country, along with the word Polite emblazoned on their backs!
The end of the road is the start of the fun
