The which oil is best topic was done last week

I use tech wash of one description or another on anything I'm likely to wear for extended trips but for my old (pre twat suit) BMW Goretex jacket that I use for off road abuse I just bung it in the wash with whatever I find in the cupboard then tumble dry it and it still works as it should.

Now then..tech wash...i use the stuff..but.

It says on the lid to use 3 caps full..is that the whole lid or just the bit that goes onto the bottle thread?

Any ideas as the amounts are very different.

Agree on the previous posts ref good lightweight, breathable gear with armour, something like a craghoppers fleece if its cold, and good old army goretex to throw over the top if it hisses down. I went through about 40 miles of a torrential thunderstorm a couple of weeks back near Antwerp and came out the other side bone dry. For most of the year I use quality carbon knuckled MX gloves which give excellent feel, especially in the wet. They don't hold water and dry very quickly. If its really cold I simply use army goretex overmits which are soft enough to maintain good feel--and they have the grippy stuff on the palms (if its good enough to fire a weapon its good enough for a bike). I must admit that I probably get a few looks (especially in Albania etc)--but I choose desert pattern so that its definitely out of place to start with !

100 mils for 1-3 garments in a soft water area
150 hard water area

1 garment just use your discretion - I use about 50 mils. Doesn't matter a huge amount I've found

I didn't. Good old normal soap powder.
The clever stuff is hard to find when you are on the road and I had no problems with it at all.

I stand to be corrected but i read in the tags i got on my Gortex jacket that you should not tumble dry as it will damage the Gortex layers. Leave to drip dry only. Plus i use the Nickwax RE- Waterproofer too and my suit is still as it was new performance wise.
