As you do not have proper control of the vehicle it would be dangerous driving, 10 points if not a ban plus large fine.

Actually, dangerous driving is a minimum of a Low Level Community Order, say, 40 hours unpaid work (what used to be community service); it carries a minimum 12 month disqualification; the Court must order an extended retest - and those are the minimums allowed in the sentencing guidelines. If it is considered more serious, Magistrates can jail you for 6 months and ban you for 24 months plus the retest; and if you go to the Crown Court, well, don't book a holiday for too soon after the hearing.

If it's careless driving, anything from 3 - 9 points, may disqualify, may order retest, may fine up to £5000.

All assumes you are caught, of course.....

Wheelies are not big or clever...

But I wish I was good at them

I know a south Wales ex cop who told me that him and his biker colleagues used to have wheelie competitions while going to and from work, doing flat out speed trap passes to see what their bikes could do etc

It's not just getting caught by the police that could get you nicked, if someone sees you, videos the wheelie and puts it on YouTube then some interfering miserable git reports it....possible conviction

Its ok so long as you don't get caught. I have never tried to do one and doubt I will.

Around 37 years ago I pulled a wheelie on the Kings Road in London during one of the 'Chelsea Cruises'. I put the front wheel down on the boot of the Camero that was in front of me when it stopped. (I was only 20 years old at the time!). I got knicked for 'driving without due care and attention' and banned for 6 months. I think I gor 6 points, but can't remember what the fine was.

I no longer do wheelies by choice (though have had the front wheel come up under hard acceleration).

i built a streetfrighter (gsxr1100m) with the express purpose of learning to pull wheelies. it took a while but i got the hang of it in the end. i was quite comfortable pulling them in time and could pop one at will and stand up hooting the horn while looking down into cars - seeing the drivers mouths drop open!
i used to stick to small back roads though or the odd one at a meeting/cafe. two friends who i tought got carried away and pulled them in town - both lost their license.
ref control - once you get good at it you have more control than you think. i used to use body position and turn the front wheel to keep it straight.
had a couple of close calls. one when i missed a gear going from second to third (you need to open the gas when selecting another gear to keep it up). another time the rear tyre was half flat and i didnt notice untill it started wobbeling side to side - on the balance point!

i had a quite back road i practiced on but someone didnt like it and the police tried to catch me with an unmarked car, parking up and waited. lost the knack now since i sold ducati and parked up the gixxer .....
