Close Calls-Biking in London

Found a great video then post it up here. It doesn't have to be about bikes.

Close Calls-Biking in London

Post by corbine »

other day someone kindly posted the video where biker got taken out by a golf whilst over taking-discussion centred on why/fault and some mentioned the positioning of biker and car hinting at an over take. Heres a compilation of close calls, and falls - similar to the earlier vid. must remember to take chain off before riding of course :-)

Bloke's a tool: he's riding like a pedal cyclist.

In at least one of those clips he's overtaking a vehicle on the inside when it's indicating left!

He should leave his stupid camera at home and concentrate on riding properly, not trying to be a traffic policeman.

Or buy a pushbike and end up under the wheels of a tipper truck.

excelent video for bikesafe courses, showing of how not to ride and anticipate, especially in the roads like londons. nothing shown in the video was unexpected, you need to read the traffic and always be ready, especially near pushbikes, unexpectidelly slowed traffic etc etc.

I watched it and thought it was a collaboration of videos from youtube.

You are right he's a tool! I think some people go out of their way to make the ride dangerous because they have helmet cam and a Youtube channel to fill

Yeah, that's the typical daily routine in London's traffic. A constant good reading of the road, anticipation and the ability to identify hazards is essential to stay upright in this city. You can never assume that other road users will respect your priority!
I do commute daily from east into central London, on the morning and afternoon rush hour, and sometimes it can become really stressful. I never had any accident, but as careful you can possibly be, the right hand covering the front brake and the left thunb on the horn switch always help!

I spent 13 years as a London despatch rider. It taught me all I need to know about biking.
Are there any d.r's left? I live up North now.
I've come to the conclusion that modern bikes are sh!te.

Riding like you have a forcefield around you is only going to end one way, although I would think a loud antisocial exhaust and some flashing lights might help.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Almost every incident involves undertaking or riding in a Bus Lane (only OK if they are "part time" Bus lanes), what can you expect if you ride like that? It's dangerous enough when you ride in the centre of the lane, give yourself a fighting chance fer f~*ks sake !
