NI plate

Post by kito »

If I was to buy a bike in Northern Ireland what would be involved in changing it over to an English number plate ? Would the be any costs ? Would it even need changing over ?

The NI plate is a UK plate, although in a different format. You see plenty of NI plates on the mainland, in fact, a lot of private/personalised plates are the NI format, so I don't think you'd need to change it. I've a lot of mates who've worked in Ulster and had cars/bikes from there and haven't had to change on their return.

There is no requirement to change from English to Norn Iron plates here so I presume its the same over there.

Having an English plate has never affected any insurance ive ever had. bike or car, cant see how it would make any difference as its still a uk plate.

My last car originated in Northern Ireland and had NI plates on, no issues at all with insurance, road tax etc (thumbs)

I transferred a NI plate from an old car of mine to my Fireblade because I wanted to keep the number plate. It was a simple procedure of filling in a form and sending it away to the DVLA. It does not affect your insurance.

Keep the NI plate it has absolutely no relevance on insurance and let's be honest they look so much cooler B)
