Its an myth that washing up liquid will turn your bike into a rusting wreck. Don't automatically believe it without thinking about it logically.
I've been washing my cars, motorcycles and push bikes with it for 35 years with no problems.

Re: CORROSION PROTECTION SPRAY
Great explanation Mattso. Where does WD40 fit in the equation?Mattso wrote:Hi all
ACF50 is an oil-based permanent protector.
Scottoiler FS365 is a spray on solution and very much different to ACF50. It's a water-based corrosion protector and it's meant to be re-applied everytime you use the bike (365 days a year).
Conclusion: They are both great products but used in very different ways. If you want to store it for a longer time: ACF50! If you use your bike regularly and you want an easy way to protect it while you are using it: FS365!
Disclaimer: Apart from being an avid Adventure Biker I also work for Scottoiler.
Thanks

I use it and ha e been a bit disappointed tbh

Hi
Has anyone taken it to someone to clean the bike and then use a compressor to spray the AC50 - claims it's much more effective for around £70!

don't know enough about WD-40 to give a full answer to that but here are my 2 cents:
WD-40 is a water dispersant/displacement that was invented for the use to displace water and leave a protective film of oil behind after the solvent evaporated.
So technically yes it is used to protect from corrosion but its not the best solution. I'm against the general 'praise' for WD-40, because even though its a great product, there is usually something that does the job better.
[ul]
[li]In this case, if you use WD-40 to protect your bike, you will end up with a light film of mineral oil on your bike. THis might attract small amounts of dirt as the dirt will stick to the oil.[/li]
[li]You don't know when the protective layer will wear off.. is it a day, or a week, or a month?[/li]
[li]to spray the whole bike you need a full bottle... aside from the cost this is a spray bottle with propellant: not great for the environment. [/li]
[li] There is a bit of confusion about the ingredients of WD-40... apparently the propellant used to be petroleum based but is now CO2.(which would make it safe to use on paint) [/li]
[li]If you spray it all over you bike you will eventually spray it on places where it will do more harm than good (chain, bearings,...) [/li]
[/ul]
I think WD-40 is great and I have used it for a lot of stuff but if you use WD-40 to protect you bike from corrosion you might as well leave your WD-40 spray can on the shelf and do what someone else in here has already suggested: Put some mineral oil on a clean rag and whipe that over your bike. It will have the same effect.

One of the biker hangouts is either the bar called "apple`s eye" at golden bay, or else the Cirkewwa ferry terminal bar. Most weekends I am in Gozo ( which is where I get to play in the mud:)...believe it or not, we have already had 2 bad storms this month)
When I am in Malta in the weekend, I drive up there as well
