Wiltshire - after ABR Midlands

hi folks
After the ABR Midlands weekend & Bank Holiday, I plan to spend a few days in Wiltshire - somewhere around Devizes (campsite yet to be selected & booked).
I'm content doing my own thing; have 2 (old) OS maps with trails pre-marked and a very helpful ABR member has provided me with more routes and agreed to lead a trail ride. So that's most of my holiday sorted!
But if anyone else has the time to meet for a short ride / a pub lunch or has any recommendations, then drop me a line.

Please note: I ride slow, like to enjoy the countryside and avoid rocky ascents / descents like the plague

I live in Amesbury so only 30 mins from Amesbury. I don't know the plain that well but what i know is fun.

Sorry, hoping to stay an extra night at the ABR event as most of the campsites in Wiltshire are full of tourists & even if I leave, it won't be early :whistle:

The group used the Three Magpies, a pub with a campsite in Seend, just outside Devises. There's a petrol station just down the road.

You should be able to follow the route that we did on the big bikes on Landranger 173, it's all on that map...note that the Ridgeway and some other byways that we used are subject to seasonal TROs outside summertime. Wilts Council and the Ridgeway websites have more information. Give me a shout is any of it is not clear...and plenty of other byways are available in the area in any case.

We did the route on big trailbikes, in the rain, and didn't get stuck. We did fall off a few times, but a 200 kg bike has a mind of its own if it gets upset, and lowering it to the ground is sometimes a safer option. Beacon Hill is the most challenging part of the ride, and you get that out of the way first.

Loads of prehistoric and otherwise interesting/historic sites/sights on the route. Spectacular views of the countryside, too. Wiltshire is a 'big' county. We got a bit lost a couple of times, but weren't using satnav or GPS.

Salisbury Plain, by contrast, is a bit MAMBA (miles and miles of bugger all) unless you like army tanks etc.

yep :laugh: :laugh: ....great grassy trail with excellent views..from Avebury to Devizes ..

withshire is trail riders heaven..everyone gets on together.....just respect the Horse riders and close the gates B)
