Anyway I packed Binko (the DR) up and headed out of Bristol, heading into what I've always known as the rainiest place on earth...
The first little problem was that there isn't a decent way to tie my map thing down and it lifts up and flaps around at speed, particulary concerning as my phone is in there charging. I ended up having to pin it down with the fuel cap, not the best solution and something I will work on before my next trip.
Binko was ace considering the extra 25KG hanging off the back. I've no desire to go fast but she happily did 70. I headed over the Old Severn Bridge but couldn't find a place for a decent pic, rode almost past Chepstow and turned onto the B4293 and heading towards Raglan when I passed this great sign.
I soon reached Abergevenny and went right into the centre for a cup of tea. It was then I discovered a whole new world. There were hundreds of bikers by the bus station. I pulled in for a tea and a fag but forgot to take a photo (sorry). After that I headed off without stalling or dropping my bike
What I don't understand is how there are so many new roads in Wales? There were bikes everywhere and lots of safety signs and the world slowly became more hilly. I stopped at the Halt cafe for lunch which was also full of bikers and the Paninni and Chocolate sponge really sorted my hangover out, its a great place rather like a canteen on a ski run.
After that I really got into my stride and the miles melted away as the scenery got more amazing. This one is on the A470 near Dolgellau
And this one is between Dolgellau and Blaenau Festiniog.
This one is Binko at [strike]Mount Doom[/strike] Blaenau Slate mine.
After that I went through Betws-y-Coed and onto some of the best mountain view roads I have ever seen.
I was getting pretty tired when I rocked up to Llanberis and I also had no idea that it was the town the Snowdon train stops at. The campsite was busy and I had to find a bit of flat land and get on with the serious business of testing kit. To be continued...
