Hi, good luck, it's a mine field. I started using bike to bike coms about eight years ago
With auto com, it's good kit but not without issues. Dodgy push to talk buttons, failed with water ingress. Me and three friends all bought the same kit new and all suffered same faults. But apart from that and varying degrees of radio interference from local taxi firms they worked pretty good.
Then I met my wife who didn't like having to plug in all the time so we decided to go blue tooth, a pair of BT midland thingy's for £99 these were good value, quite simple, no wires everywhere reasonable range and lasted a day on one charge. Problem was in a torrential down pour one packed up but we both liked the convenience so I invested in a pair Scala G4's.
these have great range one charge last for ages sometimes several days. You can update soft ware on line to keep up with the latest and switch between several users.
Although expensive they have been the best so far. I have fitted microphone and speakers to our trials and green laneing lids as well so we just clip the G4 on whatever lid we are wearing.
Deffinately Blue Tooth for us.
Good luck :-)

Iv'e never had an intercom, and was wondering, this may seem like a dumb question, but can you charge the unit as you ride from the bikes power point? I was looking at the BT bluetooth device.

Agree with heff I use autocom and ken wood radio and it works perfectly. Bluetooth is handy if you are off the bike paying for fuel etc but hard wired is reliable and just works.

It set up easy and performed perfectly from day one. The distance is supposed to be very good re. between riders but we only used a fraction of the distance (me going to pay for petrol etc.)

I do think though - you will get what you pay for.

Best wishes

Bernard.
Thanks for the advice Bernard. Just noticed you are coming to the Hubb meet in Ireland this year, just down the road from me. Will make a point of saying hello.

I would say that defeats the purpose of having Bluetooth, as the whole point it it is to be wire free :S

Current Bluetooth systems seem to have a good battery life of around 10 hours or thereabouts, but will eventually need to be recharged

I prefer my system as you don't need to worry about recharging as it works off the bikes electrics when it's running, and quite a lot of the time when touring, I wild camp so no access to mains electrics, although I do have the ability to use my 12v outlet if really stuck for my iphone and hd bike cam.
If I'm not online.............

I'm probably out on the Bat Bike
