Garmin Zumo 660LM or Tomtom Rider V4/5, this is my dilema although I like the sound of the new Tomtom I have yet to read an independant review of one. Has anyone on here had any experience of either unit? I like the idea that the Garmin has a 3.5mm jack and an mp3 player built in, on the other hand I've heard reports that the mp3 playback is of questionable quality, I know the old Garmin Zumo 550 came with Mapsource software but I'm under the impression that later models now only use Basecamp, is this the case?
Any guidance would be much appreciated

It personal choice mate the 660 lm is great, but I have never. used a tom tom. They all tend to do the same thing but my choice is always going to be garmin...

Garmin if you plan routes and follow them. Yes it's Basecamp they use now.
Tom Tom if you just go A-B without looking first.
I use Tom Tom at work just to get to an address.
Garmin on the bike. Awesome.
Basecamp let's you view your chosen route in Google Earth. Well useful

For purely road work I use the tomtom rider find it a lot simpler to use than the garmin, but for trails etc you cant beat the garmin I use the montana for that

Up until now I would have agreed with that but Tomtom are suggesting that things have changed with this unit and their adoption of the Tyre software makes the planning side a breeze......which is more than can be said for the Itinary planning on my old Tomtom Rider V1exrm193 wrote:Tom Tom if you just go A-B without looking first.

I use a montana, but I did like my old rider1 because it was so easy to use, but the Montana does everything when you finally get to grips with it. Basecamp works well on the Mac where as I don't think tyre does.
