ABR Dambusters run 2013- The 70th Anniversary of Op CHASTISE
Re: ABR Dambusters run 2013- The 70th Anniversary of Op CHASTISE
No cap on the amount of people at the moment, the campsites are big enough. We may have to form smaller groups for riding out

For all you squadron leaders heading over the briny you're in for a great time. I've been over to Germany to this rally for the past 2 years and the roads around the region are a treat and your host Snaphappy is a gentleman with all the local knowledge.
Just a couple of pointers; first, make sure you carry on the ABR tradition of camping in the car park rather than the camping field and ask Nick (Snaphappy) to take you across the dam wall. Here's a few pics from the 2012 run to get you in the mood.
This is the car park
This is the bar at the campsite
The run across the dam wall
It's a bit like the Cotswolds, with schnitzel

I have to say that this is a wonderful trip and I was gutted to have missed last years
Nick really does look after you and I'm pleased to hear that the tradition of camping in the car park is being upheld!
Nick, I've updated the front page with the Squadron Members and added myself - I will beg, steal and borrow to try and make this one!
Such happy memories of the last Dambusters tour.
German breakfast - obviously later ride out!
Nick sorts lunch - you can take the man out of the Mob..
Off to the damn dam, with beautiful roads and interesting motorcycle cafe pit stops.
A spot of history and culture.

Then chilling with the locals back at the site around the camp fire. ABR gave a good account in the sing off contest against the German Heavy Metal Forum meet - we cheated... we never said we had a Welshman hidden in the ranks - I'm sure it was the first time he'd sung 'Swing low Sweet Chariot' but it was a fine burst and so odd to hear it in a Rhondda accent!
Pack your camera and have plenty of gig space on the drive

It looks like we're going to have time. I'm just waiting to finalise a job at the start of the week and will then start to look at ferries.
Re: ABR Dambusters run 2013- The 70th Anniversary of Op CHASTISE
Hi all
Just a weekend bump
I was wondering if any one from this side of the water had thorts on ferrys / euro tunnel . to meet up with others going to the dambuster run , I no that Marnevil has booked the ferry over on the 23rd and think there is another going from hull ? . I am looking at going on the 23rd just not sure on ferry or tunnel just it's 5.1/2 hours ride from manchester to Dover . Hull is only 1 1/2 hours but the cost is all most £300 and that's a lot of beer/ food / fuel I'd could get if I'm doing the Dover route .
Thanks
Steve

Re: ABR Dambusters run 2013- The 70th Anniversary of Op CHASTISE
At the moment, I'm thinking of getting the morning ferry from Poole to Cherbourg on Wednesday morning and then finding somewhere to stop on the Normandy coast that night. On Thursday I'm thinking of riding over towards Holland and staying somewhere on Thursday night before riding to our camp site on Friday.
However, if there was a group meeting up at Dover on Thursday or just over the channel on Thursday somewhere I can change my plans.
The only reason I'm thinking of going from Poole is that I'm only 15 miles from the port and the crossing is £49.
Cheers
Mark

Hi Markn
I no that Marnevil has booked on the 8 25am ish ferry about £40 ish he put up a discount code up on one of the early posts I looked at getting the ferry for about the same price but still looking at my be the tunnel at I think (1) it's £48 ish
And a can get the tunnel about 9 50 ish and meet up with the ferry that leaves at 8 25 due to uk time against Europe time but if there are others meeting up on uk side I'd be good to meet up with them and travel together
