Is it correct that no longer refurbish boots and if the sole wears out its a new pair?

Yes. They say its not cost affective to do full refurbs, as for re-sole, I had mine done last year but not sure if they will do them again.
I have done well over 80 thousand miles in them so far so I'm quite happy to buy some more when the time comes.

Had mine resoled 18 months ago. I seem to remember there being some claims against Altberg as refurb's were not "as new" so they changed their policy.

Great! I bought these boots on the knowledge that they were reworkable so now its down to the bike shop for a another pair of buy and chuckit boots!

I've had Lorica boots (not from them) and the material is more waterproof but less abrasion-resistant than good leather.

Any boot with a Goodyear welted/stitched sole can be resoled by your local cobbler. The sole won't be the same as the one that came off though.

I've got some Hoggs Goretex Jason insulated non-motorcycle boots and they are very good. The outer sole is becoming detached on one, but the tread is nearly worn off them now. They'll last the rest of this winter then the cobbler can have a go at resoling them

Well that's probably the way to go as they are just broken in after 8+ years of ownership! Don't wear them all the time but they do fit better as they get more worn in.
The trouble I have is the Fast away pegs have grubs screws in the tops, and the sole is getting shreaded. Should find a better idea like rubber inserts in the pegs!

They still do the re-sole. I imagine they would do the refurb' if you agreed to a reasonable guarantee? No harm in asking.

I wear Lowa combat GTX boots, Very warm, waterproof and comfortable when walking. Sidi Couriers for off road.

I've just finished cleaning and polishing my 5 year old pair of Hoggs with the Leder Grease that they supply.

Still comfy and waterproof, and not needing a resole yet. They are my second pair, made to measure for wide feet, because 1st pair were splitting at bend points by big toes, after almost 10 years wear and one resole.

Highly recommended.

Does anyone have any experience of their vegan bike boots made out of Lorica?

Yes, I have a pair of their Clubman boots in Lorica which have done 50k road miles and are fine. Don't use them so much now as I have (leather ) MX-style boots for the dirt. Also have their hiking boots in Lorica which look and feel much like the leather version.

I agree the material doesn't feel that stout but depending on boot style leather might not be much either. The Altberg boots are built in layers so the final thickness isn't just Lorica and sole unit is quite tough to combat crush type injuries. Note that some quite top-end road boots are Lorica.
