Salisbury Plain and Wiltshire gpx and info

Post by Tramp »

Right Dirty riders

As we have a new sub section I`d better post some good practical info up..

Salisbury plain Army activity web site..

http://www.collingbourne-ducis.com/SPTA/index.html

please check the above before riding out and use it as a guide..Also dont be afraid to stop and ask the landwardens [ 4x4 pickups and millatary police] as they are their to make you visit safe and legal. A huge number of the LEGAL rights of way now carry marked posts and directional indicators, this is to make it easier to find your way around and also prosecute those that go off the legal stuff..30mph speed restrictions apply and some old boats ..Honeydown bottom" are facing closure..sign posted as such.

It is very very easy to get lost without a map and gps showing your position as a overlay on the new garmin discovery map..but a o/s map is the basic needed..

http://www.adventurebikerider.com/forum ... lanes.html

the above is a link to downloadable LEGAL byeways all suitable for big bikes with suitable tyres for the connditions and experience,,I leave it to yourselves to judge whats what..

please ride in a responsible manner and resperct others as per normal..The fords crossings can be dangerous and have drowned many bikes ...mine included.

Also here is a link to a few web sites people can use to view the gpx files..

http://maps.the-hug.net/

http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php

and a link to a very good basic site that if you belong to the trf gives better access..

http://www.trailwise.org.uk/

As always especially for beginers or people not used to the area ...check with wiltshire councils "byeways dept" officers for the area you intend riding in as seasonal TRO...
traffic restriction orders...do come into place from time to time and the ridgeway has a mandatory closure from sept to May..

usual disclaimer..you have a choice to use the above but i`m not responsible for your actions..
