Re: Another Peak District protest ride/drive
No, I'd say they were winning it until recently...now the tide is turning.
I know the PPNPA have been surprised by the volume of protest their proposals have generated.
Over 4000 responses to the public consultation (for and against), and the number of people wanting to speak at public meetings are both more than they can comfortably cope with.
The protest rides play a huge part in motivating that kind of response, and getting it into the public eye.

How many for, how many against?Richard Simpson wrote:No, I'd say they were winning it until recently...now the tide is turning.
Any evidence?

Re: Another Peak District protest ride/drive
Do we not as a group(ABR), TRF or individual do the right thing and do as requested by the government and be part of the big soceity. WE adopt the lanes and maintain them taking away the responsibilty? If the walkers are faced with notices "this lane has been adopted & Maintained by ABR, please use respectfully" they wont have a lot to moan about if we do because as sure as eggs are eggs THEY (Walkers) will adopt them. The government has just released the inland navigation network from their quango into a trust partnership. With council, corporates and individuals adopting some sections of the canal/river/towpath etc, so a more modern approach to use and maintenance of that network. We need a legal minded person to set it up BUT we need to get out their and raise money to fund maintenance and volunteer activities.

I am a qualified arborist (tree surgeon) and will be willing to bring my equipment to help on the repairs, especially if you need brash clearance, on the sunday sorry working on the saturday, if you're on the run on 25 nov look for me i'm on a rough 1150gs in black. This is the sort of action we need to take to show all we actually do care about the routes we drive / ride.
Re: Another Peak District protest ride/drive
Having done many toy / pet food / protest (MAG) runs I think that the majority of the general public enjoy the spectacle of a mass of vehicles and some even trouble themselves to find out what it's all about and then they can make up their own minds.
The people that get annoyed are those that are already annoyed and in the minority although very vocal.
Most people don't care because it does not affect them directly. So we need to highlight the fact that it is their (everybodys) "rights of access" we are trying to protect not just ours.
