Re: Harley-vs-Otherbikes
What a load of dross, we all just ride bikes, I'v noticed also a lot of anomosity, on this forum, to GS riders. And no I don't ride a harly or GS, never have..everone to their own thing, it would be prity boring if we were into the same thing..

Not the friendliest thing to say to all the people on the thread/forum. Some people want to cause arguments.peterekins wrote:What a load of dross

Re: Harley-vs-Otherbikes
i have Harley,s a big Dyna(1550) and a Buell ulysses love them both.
one of the best things about them is TORQUE loads of it,at low revs!!!
and they are cheap to run the buell does around 65mpg and the big twin around 55mpg
they hold there price well and you can get every part right back to the 1930s.
love them or loath them theres alot of them about!!
we cant all be wrong??
by the way i do ride all year and do the miles.

Re: Harley-vs-Otherbikes
I vote funny. BUT, the most travelled motorcycle in the world is the Harley belonging to Peter and Kay Forwood which has been to 194 recognised countries. You can find their story on that "other" adventure riding site. Peter reckons that the Harley has been a good bike for the job because it has a low centre of gravity and he doesn't have far to fall when things turn pear shaped! Having binned my Beemer a few times he may have a point. Posers of any breed are, of course, a drag. Mike H

Re: Harley-vs-Otherbikes
That stuff about parking under a bridge when it rains and not using the front brake is actually in the Harley owners' handbooks in the late 1970s AMF era models.
How do I know?
Used to work for a dealer that sold them. Back when dealers (even Harley dealers) sold motorcycles and not lifestyles.
Was talking about the VW/Audi takeover of Ducati the other day with an automotive industry bigwig.
"Ah yes," he said, sagely.
"Ducati is a luxury brand."
I though back to those days in 1978 (we had a Duc franchise in the garage too) and remembered what the 900SS was actually like: "luxury" was never a word I would have applied to those bevel-drive, kickstart only, too loud to race, loveable, temperamental beasts.
But then modern Ducati has airport boutiques selling branded goods to business-class travellers.
It's a funny old world.

Errr ummm, I own a Harley. Have done for 31 years, that was before they became a fasion statement. I absolutely love the thing, just don't subscribe to the twaddle that goes with it. That also applies to the three Nortons and Armstrong I ride. I just love to take the piss out of anyone who takes life too seiuosley, be it bikes football or religeon. After all, if you can laugh at yourself you can't laugh at others.
