HG Uk is safe

Post by Sopwith Camel »

Just been told that the administrator for Hein Gericke UK has accepted an offer for the brand to continue in the UK.
Not sure if any stores will close, as many are franchised.
What ever your thought about HG this is good news for those working with for them.

Lets hope they learn by the previous bad business practices and go back to selling decent quality gear at reasonable prices, instead of the cheaply made tat being overpriced of recent years.
Also, maybe you'll actually be able to order something in their shops now without having to pay up front for it.

Great news....but

Has HG quality been suffering in recent years?

I've never heard anything bad about their gear, and although I've never owned any I had pretty much earmarked HG for the next textile suit based upon recommendations on other forums. I was under the impression that HG gear was pretty hard to beat for gear that does what it says on the tin, at a reasonable price.

Performance and spec (warmth, completely 100% waterproof, breathable, CE protection throughout) is important enough to me that I'd pay the money for Halvarssons, etc if I have to, but I thought that HG gear was pretty reliable.

I was chatting to Fil of Roadkill Cookout fame (for those who've been to Ripley), and he'd heard, from a reliable man down the pub, that it wasn't their business model that was the problem, but that a major investor turned round a few weeks ago and asked for all their money back.

So touch wood if someone has stepped into that investor's shoes things should be ok for Hein Gericke.

Mightly relieved! All my kits HG and I've always been impressed with the design, quality and price tbh. Local store was helpful having developed a relationship with the staff there but alas its been shut for months now due to a fire (and unlikley to open given the current situation?)
