So I decided to take a back seat on this foreign sortee and not spend my whole time pandering to all my mates whims and organising everything for them....again!
So I thought I was off to the Picos region but we appear to be staying in Vigo which is on the north east coast of Spain and about 6hrs/300 miles from our base! Thankfully we are departing a couple of days early to do the Picos but worryingly I'm not sure any clear plans are in place the the interim week+!! And there's a pool at our villa!
Theres a couple of national parks along the Spanish/Portuguese border not too far from us that look worth a day out (Parque National da Peneda Ceres to the south and Parque Natural de Montezinho to the east) and the coastal roads north and south from Vigo look good playgrounds.
Anyone got any must do roads/locations that they'd recommend? Someone mentioned a cable car butI think this in in the Picos.
Many thanks in advance.
Despite taking dibbs on the tail gunner slot for this trip I'm sensing I might be up the sharp end...again!

Spain; roads to ride?
Re: Spain; roads to ride?
The road going north out of Matallana de Torio gets quite spectacular through the gorge. Maybe a bit too far from your travel area though.
Re: Spain; roads to ride?
the cable car at fuente de is slap in the middle of the picos. we've just got back from our family hols there and my sunburnt back is still itching like crazy!!
its a shame the picos is out of reach for you because the roads are awesome for a bike.
the main road through the region is the N621 "pots and pans" road (potes-panes). a good route around the picos would be to take the N621 down from the coast and the N625 back up. if mountain hairpins are your bag then i recommend off this road the CA282, CA281, LE243, CL635 in fact any road you take off the valley floor will wind up into the mountains and be brilliant. if you fancy a barely paved goat track go up to fuente de and turn off at pido to go to sotres. even the main road N621 is regularly closed by rockslides, campervan and coach head-ons, etc.

We're doing the Picos on the way home. Leaving Vigo a couple of days before we're due on the boat and re-locating to a hotel near the Picos. Trip covers 14-26 September and there's no way I'm not doign the Picos!!! Thanks for the pointers.

Re: Spain; roads to ride?
I do a fair bit on my own and to be honest I've explored places I wouldn't have done so with my biking mates. I also like to be out early doors and back before the madding public hit the highways whilst my buddies like their beds!! I also have a family and wife to keep sweet too!!!Redmurty wrote:That's why I tend to ride alone good luck have a great trip cheers Spud

i dont know what bike you are on, but if you love perfect tarmac with sweeping hairpins you must do the N621 between riano to potes at least. it has a mirador(viewpoint) on with a bronze deer statue you may see pics of. in fact the N621 goes a long way west, maybe as far as vigo? but thats a long way, 5 whole pages.
