Why So Many BMW's for sale
Re: Why So Many BMW's for sale
And the answer is BMW have a new bike coming out soon that they have been testing for 2 years .Now before you start i have a GS1150 and a 660 Tenere .I"m not odd and not rich and i"ll even wave or stop to help if your in trouble so don"t start knocking BMW riders people are all different even the ones that ride the same bikes .

Perhaps the worm is turning, and AB's time is running out and they are going out of fashion.
I know people who are selling their GS's as well, one bought a Duke the others are buying tourers. Perhaps people are realising they actually don't take them off road and a tourer would be more comfortble.
The guy that bought the duke had problems with his cluth on a slow speed handling course, new bike and it was smoking in a bad way.
cheers Spud

Re: Why So Many BMW's for sale
The most likely reason is that we're coming to the end of summer and the owners just don't ride in the winter. Let's not forget that a lot of the people now buying adventure bikes used to buy sports bikes and they didn't ride those in the winter either.
I don't care, I'm picking up a 1200 Multistrada tomorrow morning and I need to get in run in pretty quickly because I'm off to watch classic racing in Belgium over the bank holiday weekend.

The 1200GS fashion parade is over and they're being sold for the reasons stated above
Glad I ride a proper GS................the 1150GSA
Back to normality...........
I was at Squires last night - loads of bikes, about 20-30 12GS's and I was the only 1150GSA, made me feel like not one of the herd

Re: Why So Many BMW's for sale
I think that the new bike that is soon to arrive will force a severe price drop on used GS's so everyone's trying to ditch the old stuff (listen at me with a 21 yr old honda) to try retain a good resale price, but it looks as if they are all too late, if there are already that many for sale so a price war will ensue, but only if potential buyers are not scared of the idea of owning an out of warranty Beemer, in a couple of months from now they will be value for money and not enjoying inflated prices.

Re: Why So Many BMW's for sale
i disagree with the many of the points made but then im biased. if you look at how many GS's have sold in the UK then its only natural that you will get a high number for sale. compare how many focus's are on sale and then how many subaru outbacks. i also do not think the GS is losing its appeal, look at the most recent sales figures, theyre still selling like hotcakes with only possinly the explorer outselling it for a month. BMW motorrads customer retention rate is quite high so i would expect many of those to repurchase another GS. coming from someone who has ridden and bought loads of bike recently, i think that many of those who purchase elsewhere eventually regret it once the novelty wears off. the whole BMW bike and customer service package is still the bar to beat. thats just my 2 pennies worth.

Got rid of my 2004 model because it went wrong so often and the finish was so bad engine looked like it had leprosy. Got a Super Tenere 1200 now no probs so far great bike whatever MCN say.
