What bike to buy for £1500???

Post by Tink »

I was just wondering what bike you would buy if you had £1500?

I sold my GS a while back now, and i'am using most of the cash to do house renovations,
so hence £1500 for a bike?

A mates offered me a 1996 pegaso 650 17k, black, £600 years mot..
Do i go for this as a winter hack/green laner????
Or a Kle 500 or something else???

I bought a xtz750 tenere (she's not for sale) a couple of months ago to get back in the saddle and to see whether I would take to the adventure bike! Brilliant, she runs well, pulls like a train and gets admiring glances parked up next to the new gs1200's.

Great fun, easy to ride and fix!

Tink, that Pegaso sounds like a bargain. Make sure the fork seals on those upside-downies are ok, and that the rear shock is ok, C&S's, ok and get some decent rubber on it (conti Escapes spring to mind) oh and that the silencers haven't rotted, and you've got a good road bike and capable green lane. That 5 valve head is sweeter than the engines in the BMW Funduros!

I've just bought myself a 97 DR350 SEW with 5000 miles on the clock for £1600, Now although the 150 mile ride home from Cardiff on full on Knobblies was a bit of a culture shock (after having just done 3500 miles on the silky smooth Tiger), I've since put a set of Pirelli Scorpions on it and now getting used to its 30bhp, I'm quite enjoying riding it around the local lanes. Its happiest at about 60mph but will creep up to 75/80mph and they're brilliant on fuel......best £1600 I've spent in a while

I'm thinking along similar lines. Idris (XT660Z) will be joining me in Spain in due course, so looking for a semi-project to keep in the UK - but I plan to spend around £500 on the purchase, leaving some £1000 for bits and stuff over the year ahead.

Thinking about an old K100RS at the moment, or even a MG V50. Though some DR and XT 600s have caught my eye I'm not sure I want something so similar to Idris. Knowing me I'll end up with a 24 year old GT or CB 750!
