I was out round there yesterday on my TA, even forded the Avon flood waters (at least 4" deep!) Sherston to Sopwith road.

Cool, Pilgrim and I did the Fosse on our 250's in the rain when it was all flooded it was a really good day. Drop us a message on the "Green laning in Glos thread" on the South West regional group and maybe we can meet up for a rideout, all welcome.dodursley wrote:I was out round there yesterday on my TA, even forded the Avon flood waters (at least 4" deep!) dave, you dont say how old you both are,if you are over 21 go direct access ,dont waste money on overpriced 125s.spend the money on the test, then you can have what you want/can afford.you can get a lot of bike for less cash with a full licence

We bought a 12 year old Yamaha SR 125 for Mrs Fox to learn on. She has short legs so it was important to get her a bike that she could feel confident on as the seat was low.
currently traveling the world on a CCM SR40

Thanks for that, I've seen mention of direct access but I didn't have a clue what it was. I will start googling right away.mikeyboy wrote:dave, you dont say how old you both are,if you are over 21 go direct access ,dont waste money on overpriced 125s.spend the money on the test, then you can have what you want/can afford.you can get a lot of bike for less cash with a full licence
When I passed my test things were very different. Ahhh those were the days... you could get a pint of Whitbread Best, 10 Number 6 and some pork scratchings and still have change from half a crown.

Re: Girlfriend wants a learner bike
I've just bought a Yam SR 125 and am in love. Having had some experience on a CG, this is much lighter and lower in comparison, nicer riding position IMO, very easy to manipulate and manoeuvre and has a very low centre of gravity (I can put my feet up on the pegs at a standstill). Being a 5,4" short-legged weakling, it's brought my confidence on no end to have something which is so manageable.
Re: Girlfriend wants a learner bike
Id agree with mikeyboy re direct access as it allows you to ride whatever bike you wishdavec wrote:Thanks for that, I've seen mention of direct access but I didn't have a clue what it was. BUT confidence is important as some feel that riding a 500 in the test is to much, and more weight in the slow speed stuff tends to be the undoing of many.
its funny but when ive been on smaller stuff the slow speed stuff is so much easier but when your going at anything over 20 mph they feel so unstable to me
take the test on what your most confident with but id recomend having a try (under supervision) on a 500 and see how it feels. any good instructor will help out

good luck
