Nowt wrong with planning routes and accomodation in advance. For a lot of people they spend as many hours doing that and get as much enjoyment out of that, as they do on the trip itself, especially if time is limited for the trip. It often means that those people have a better experience on the trip ...

Never understand the booking advance thing, you pick this great area to ride and while enjoying the roads et al you can clock somewhere to stay as and when it takes your fancy.

All the best accommodation I have ever stayed in was pure luck just turning up and seeing whats about.

I loved harris and Lewis, would also suggest Islay if you get the chance.

Harris is a split in two lovely beaches to West and volcanic to East a bit like Iceland.
