Riding through the heart of Iceland

Nestled in the Central Highlands of Iceland is a series of volcanos and calderas set amongst the Dyngjufjoll mountains, an otherworldly landscape representing a violent geological history spanning millions of years.

ABR contributor Paul McPherson and his mate Lewis shipped their bikes over to Iceland from the UK to ride the country’s famous gravel F-roads, which cross the island’s wild interior.

In this photo, they’re riding under the shadow of Heroubrieo volcano on their way to an overnight stop in a hut, a challenging off-road journey ahead of them. You can read about their adventure on page 94 of the latest issue.

Majestic New Zealand

Husband and wife Simon and Lisa Thomas have amassed more miles on motorcycles than most while travelling to all corners of the globe, and they’ve created some of the world’s best motorcycle travel photography along the way.

This particular image, shot in New Zealand’s Milford Sound, perfectly captures the sensation of riding through a vast, epic landscape.

But the best thing about it is that you can learn everything you need to know about taking inspiring adventure biking photos like this yourself, as Simon gives you a photography masterclass on page 50 of the new issue of ABR

Testing the new Royal Enfield Bear 650 scrambler

inspiring adventure biking photos

What’s better than test riding the cool new Royal Enfield Bear 650 scrambler? Test riding it along miles of dirt trails in the California desert, of course.

Luckily for us, that’s exactly what we did in the latest issue of the mag. But aside from living out our old-school desert racer dreams and exploring the Wild West, we got a good chance to come to grips with Royal Enfield’s latest offering?

How does it perform? Is it a scrambler in name only, or does it have real off-road chops? And does the price make it one of the best value bikes on the market?

Find out in our review of the new Bear 650 on page 118.

Explore Tibet

inspiring adventure biking photos

Thanks to its contentious status and bureaucratic restrictions, Tibet isn’t the easiest place to explore by motorcycle. But if you’re patient and dedicated, you’ll be richly rewarded with mesmerising roads and vistas and a unique cultural experience, as ABR contributor Ian Neubauer discovered.

With mountain passes reaching over 5,000m, sudden blizzards, run-ins with the People’s Liberation Army, and gruelling days in the saddle, Ian’s trip was not all Shangri-La. However, it’s often true that the toughest things in life are the most satisfying and memorable, and that’s exactly the case here.

You can read the full story of Ian’s Tibet trip and find out how you can ride there yourself on page 102 of the latest issue.
