The ride is divided into four stages and covers the entire width of Australia through Queensland, NT and WA, and through both the Simpson and Gibson Deserts. Setting off from Cape Byron, New South Wales, Australia’s most eastern point, on Saturday 4 August, participating ABRs will cover over 3, 720 miles of desert tracks and a variety of challenging terrain before arriving at at Steep Point, Australia’s most western point, on 24 August.
“It’s important to keep [the trip] simple,” says Stuart, “to move as light and as freely as possible. To enjoy the blissful highs, the wildlife, and most of all the true characters of this land.”
Six ABRs are currently confirmed for the 2012 trip. All riders are asked to make a $300 (£196) charity donation to register for the ride and add any additional sponsorship funds raised to this. All money raised will go to SIDS and Kids Charity in Queensland, which provides bereavement and support services to families and anyone that has been affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or a young child.
