Triumph has announced an update to its Scrambler 1200 range, with a new X model replacing the outgoing XC along with an update to the current XE.
The Scrambler 1200 X has been designed to be more accessible to a broader audience, with a lower price and a lower seat height. Meanwhile, the XE gains new suspension, brakes, tech, and exhaust parts compared to the previous model.
Here’s everything that you need to know.
Triumph Scrambler 1200 X
The Scrambler 1200 X is the big news here, with the new model replacing the previous XC variant. Triumph says that they’ve designed the 1200 X is ‘optimised to deliver the specification riders have asked for’, which apparently is a ‘lower seat height, even more competitive pricing, and an even better road ride’.
To this end, the 1200 X features new Marzocchi suspension optimised for road riding, with 170mm front and rear wheel travel. With the new suspension, the seat height has been reduced to a very manageable 820mm, with the option of a low seat which brings it down further to 795mm.
The new Scrambler X also comes with new, switchable cornering ABS and cornering traction control, which is a welcome feature for a ‘base’ model.
Elsewhere, the Scrambler 1200 X is equipped with five riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain, Off-Road, and a user-configurable mode along with LED lighting, USB charging, and a full colour TFT display.
The bike is stopped by twin 310mm floating discs gripped by Brembo four-piston radial callipers, while the rear wheel has a single 255mm disc with a single-piston Nissin calliper.
Much of the hardware remains the same as the outgoing XC, including the tubeless 21-inch and 17-inch front and rear wheels, respectively.
Both bikes feature updates to the 1200 engine’s exhaust system, which means that although the peak power and torque figures remain the same, the delivery has changed. Triumph says that this has resulted in torque being delivered sooner in the rev range as well as more torque being available above 5,000rpm, which should give both bikes better off-road engine performance.
Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE
Meanwhile, the Scrambler 1200 XE returns to the line-up for 2024, albeit with some changes to its hardware.
As on the X, suspension is provided by Marzocchi, replacing the Showa and Ohlins units previously found on the XE. The new forks and shocks retain the same amount of travel as before at 250mm, and each unit is still fully adjustable.
The seat height on the XC stands tall at 870mm, and a new, 32mm longer swing arm helps balance the bike off-road.
The brakes have also been replaced, with new Brembo Stylema monoblock callipers gripping floating 320mm discs up front, while the rear features a Nissin single-piston calliper working on a 255mm disc.
Rounding off the additions is new LED indicators and an LED taillight, along with the revised exhaust system also featured on the 1200 X.
In terms of electronics, the 1200 XE gets the same riding modes and tech as the X model along with an Off-Road Pro riding mode, which reduces electronic intervention to its lowest state for more control on the trails.
New 2024 Scrambler 1200 prices
Triumph has worked hard to keep the prices down on its 2024 Scrambler line-up, and the new Scrambler 1200 X is arriving with a lower price than the XC that it’s replacing, coming in at £11,895 OTR.
The Scrambler 1200 XE will be available from £13,295, and both bikes will be landing in UK dealerships from January 2024.
