A new programme about adventure motorcycling in Morocco is set to air this Saturday on National Geographic.
Riding Morocco: Chasing the Dakar will follow an off-road novice and experienced Dakar Rally competitor as they trace the footsteps of the famous rally on new Honda Africa Twin motorcycles.
The duo will start their journey in Marrakech before making their way through mountains, gorges and deserts to the unforgiving Moroccan Sahara. Along the way they will also be visiting historical sites and remote ancient oasis towns lying deep in the desert.
One of the riders, Christophe Barriere-Varju is well-versed in riding this sort of terrain having completed the Dakar Rally four times. His fellow rider, however, is Australian fashion model and TV presenter Laura Csortan, and she has no experience of riding off-road whatsoever.
If the trailer is anything to go by, it looks like the duo will be taking on some pretty gnarly terrain as they ride through some of Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes.
The programme will also offer the opportunity for motorcycle enthusiasts to see how well the Africa Twin can cope in a range of terrain at the hands of two riders with very different skill levels.
We’ve all seen videos of professional riders absolutely flying on the Africa Twin in a range of scenarios, so it will be great to see how an off-road novice gets on.
It certainly promises to be an interesting watch, and it’s always good to see adventure motorcycling on the small screen.
Will the riders and the bikes make it to their finishing point intact? You’ll need to tune in to National Geographic Channel in the UK this Saturday at 5pm to find out. There will also be repeats of the episode both the following morning and on the Monday morning.
