BMW 1200RT v Honda Pan European

I met a couple of guys from Gloucester in Fort William over the weekend. They had driven up to Carlisle on the first night and then a big day up to the Isle of Skye and back down to Fort William. T hey were then heading home next morning.
As I quite fancy a Pan myself (although I must confess the RT looked far sharper) we had a chat about 'which they thought was best'. The answer was so; the RT. Both of them reckoned that the grunt from the BMW twin won out on the roads up in the Highlands of Scotland where the Pan rider said he was having to constantly change gear where as the RT rider did not.
I'm now having second thoughts and that BM sure did look the part. If anyone passing through this forum has used either of these bikes for long distance touring your thoughts on the matter would be welcome
