Cornwall -

Post by Ubique 895 »

Hello,

Heading down to Cornwall for the week on the bike with the Gf on Thursday and would welcome some suggestions please.

Any campsites,B&Bs and places of interest down there that you could recommended? Any good "must do" roads too?

Cheers,

Ben

SE Cornwall is my stamping ground. This stretch of road is from Rame to Tregantle (check on Google earth) Easiest access is from Plymouth via Torpoint ferry but you can turn off A38 at Trerulefoot Roundabout and follow the twisties back to Anthony, then turn in to the coast. There are a couple of really nice clifftop cafe's along here. Look out for the signs. Also The Gook cafe at Portwrinkle is good. Weather looks good for YThur and Friday. Enjoy your trip

I have a static caravan near Newquay so I know that area pretty well.

Loads of B and Bs in Newquay, there a Travel Lodge in the middle of town overlooking the sea ( I think its £50 per nite) and a premier inn at Fraddon which is about 2-3 inland miles from the centre.

Places to see on north coast :- Padstow, Port Issac (filmed Doc Martin there), Tintagel, Boscastle, Newquay and St Ives.

There is a fantastic road running down the north coast from St Ives to Lands End, lovely views and loads of old mines etc.

On the South coast, I like Porthcurno (atlantic cable museum), St MIchaels Mount (at Marazion), Mevagissy, Charlestown (used a lot in films) and Looe.

Lands End is a bit of a theme park but you have to get a pic of both of you and the bike by the signpost.

You can park on most single yellow lines in Newquay until the end of May (unless they have changed it since November, havent had a chance to get down this year yet).

Have a good week..................PH

St Ives. We go every year. Camping at https://www.ayrholidaypark.co.uk/ dont be put off by the website, its actually a nice small site with amazing sea views and walking distance into St Ives town and seafront.

Lots of twisty roads heading south from St Ives. Head for Porthurno on the south coast if you can. Amazing beach and some very interesting WW2 underground cable bunkers and stuff. ENJOY!

B3306 from land's End to Hayle, and take Atlantic Highway there and back (A39), on the way down come off the M5 at Bridgwater and aim for Minehead / Lynmouth / Ilfracombe / Barnstable / Bude / Padstow...get the idea, fab road :)

The road between St Ives and Land's end is great , both ways, there are old tin mines, and if you hug the coastal paths you can do a bit of "off roading" we normally do these bits mid week in the winter so we don't upset anyone. Cape cornwall is a must.
If your down near the Lizard try out this campsite, you can have fires, and there are two good pubs, the cafe right at the point is a fantastic place for breakfast.

Echoing many here, the Zennor back road from St Ives to St Just and on again to Lands End etc. Look up Trevervan Campsite just past Logan Rock on the Lamorna back road, amazing coastal walks from this point in both directions. I've lived all over west cornwall and know the area very well, Newquay is a sh***hole full of drunken ego's (lived there for 12yrs). Henry's on the Lizeard is the place to go, they have a communial firepit now, great atmosphere etc. So many places spring to mind but be warned, riding in summertime cornwall has its drawbacks and dangers. Call in to Hayle Maccy D's on a tues if you want to meet some like minds...
PM me if you want my number for a west cornwall back up service, breakdowns etc etc..

Otherwise ENJOY

Bude (well just up the road) widemouth bay just beautiful then have a nose at the huge building that looks like a ufo detection station but probably less interesting

ok its in devon but becky falls in dartmoor is a great place to go and walk round go on the black run its great clambering over huge rocks then a climb ish up lungburst hill

kents cavern had the tour round there and have to say it was very interesting its touristy and not hardcore in the slightest but we both enjoyed it (torquay so not cornwall again)

We had a great time dodging about took the car nothing booked just stopped where we ended up must go back soon loved the area
