...our even Europe? The reason I ask is that I just bought:
Complete with sections for The US, Africa, Asia etc but nothing at all for Europe. Surely this is an oversight? You'd think that parts of Europe should be at least as adventurous as parts of America? What about Eastern Europe, the further east you go the more primative it can get?
So I was wondering, what makes an adventure, and can you have one close to home I
yes is the simple answer, these books would be a bit boring if it described a trip to hull or evesham as nice as they may be so the exotic places stir the juices and fan the desire to travel..
and remember a trip to tesco's can be an adventure!
dutyhero a man for all seasons, widows consoled, virgins converted, housewives cuddled, an all round good guy
I've not read the book in all honesty but as Slimbo has said, yes is the answer.
You can have thousands of awesome adventures in Europe and right here in the UK.
The UK is so overlooked by those of that live here and one of the reasons that the ABR UK Rallies are such a huge hit - just a weekend away and a ride out that takes you to places that you have never been before.
There is history and vistas galore all over the isle - each one having another flavour to explore.
This year at ABR -
Jan = ABR Dartmoor - The National Park that took in the high moors, cutting across the wild horses on the moors towards the prehistoric villages. A few castles and of course seeing the 'off track' reservoirs and you have yourself an adventure. That is not taking into account the social side of the rally and damn good laugh around the fire.
March = ABR Chilton Rally Buckinghamshire - taking in the best that the area has to offer, lead ride outs that can show you the wonders of the area.
April = Cumbria - Now you take the weekend for the single lane passes that cut over the Cumbrian fells and the Roman ruins! Some of the most breath taking tracks of England. This will see you stop off at the sea port on Whitehaven for a fish and chips before sweeping back over Keswick for another great pass run.
June = ABR Welsh Rally - Take in the wonderful sights of South Wales and have some fun on the green lanes - or wind your way up and over the valley for a famous bit of pie! Something for everyone at this event and more to come in 2013.
July = Hampshire - as another host takes over the mantle to bring you the very best of British, always something new and always something exciting. New and old friends abound as you take the pick of the ride out that you fancy most, or perhaps chilling doing your thing.
August = ABR Midlands - Now you have an enduro course on your doorstep to play and practice on. Free beer if you can get past the swamp of death and if that is not enough then youhave the ride out that takes you into chocolate box cover villages and towns.
September = ABR Highlands - You're now off to the Scottish playground, coming from the south you get to have a crack at the Applecross pass, the highest pass in the UK - perhaps you are above the cloud line or if not then you have the view of a lifetime. Camping up at Ullapool you can join the ride that has you cutting past the highlands, glorious lochs with the chance of wild deer and eagles to be spied, of course the leaping salmon at the Falls of Shin is a must for any sniper photographer.
That is just the adventures you can have in the UK with ABR.
Europe? That includes the Alps, the Dolomites, The Pyrenees, The Carpathian ridge, Bohiemian Prague, Historical Brussels, Romantic Paris, Rustic Spain - lets not forget the dams of Germany, the tragic sites of Poland, the former USSR states of Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, Belarus. Oh did I miss out the Balkans as you wind you way past Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Kosovo with the amazing history that they have been through! You end up in Greece playing at the ruins of modern thought - you take the ferry back up the spine of Italy and play with the fashion models in Milan before you make your way back into Germany, perhaps stop in Switzerland for a day at lake Geneva?
Yeah, I could sort a few adventures in the UK and Europe - no problemo.
Interesting question that which i guess brings up the old question - how do you define adventure?
For me its all about conquering unknowns, the satisfaction of seeing your plans work out or not as maybe the case, often when they don't work out as planned it's how you adapt to the situation that really makes you feel like you are in the middle of a real adventure!
So while James suggestion of organised rallys and ride outs are great for meeting some great like minded people and sight seeing, I think that the best adventures you will have will be the ones you have dreamt up and put together yourself, that said, the travelling to the rally can be a fantastic adventure too ! Theses will be the ones that folk will want to hear about around the campfire at an ABR meet, and you will only be too delighted to tell them!!
Yes Defiantly, go to somewhere in uk you haven't been to it is an adventure going to that location in it self.
Although I think james got it right by and large
We are the Pilgrims, master; we shall go Always a little further: it may be Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow, Across that angry or that glimmering sea.
James, do you write blurb for tour operators and travel companies in your spare time? lol  Would that be 'locally caught' fish&chips in Cumbria?
Oh, and you missed out May, i was looking forward to that! B)
P.S. FreeLoader has got a lot to do there on his 125, then again I noitice LeJog on his website - that'll be an adventure on its own B)
Quick answer, yes you can.
It doesn't have to be trekking off to the middle of Africa or some far flung place that man has never seen before to be deemed an adventure. As long as your having fun and venturing to places you wouldn't normaly go to then to me it's an adventure
