OPTIMATE 3+ MOTORCYCLE MOTORBIKE BATTERY CHARGER

Dose any one use one of these on a R1200GS
If so how do you get on with it ,is it safe to wire straight in to the battery with the supplied socket and charge while the battery is still connected and on the bike ?

If the 1200 has canbus, you will need the Optimate 4 rather than 3 as the 3 is not compatible with BMW canbus systems

With the 4, I think you can get an adaptor to plugs staight into power socket on the bike and charge through that (if its the same as my F650GS twin)

There's two versions of the '4' you'll need the 'OptiMate 4 Dual'

I use an old optimate on my bikes. If you wire the lead directly onto the battery it will be ok, or if you fit an aux socket wired direct to battery you can plug in using a BMW type din plug (this is what I do)

It will not work in the standard aux socket because of the canbus system, or you can bypass that as above.

On my F8GS I've wired an Optimate style connecter direct to the battery without any problems. Bikes been on & off it for the last 2 months since the frosts started up here.

Hi I use the optima the 3 and bought the waterproof lead from the battery from ebay , No issues
