Morocco 6 days

Post by anagallis_arvensis »

Left home 1.00am, flew out of Gatwick arrived Marrakech at lunch time, taxi to Hired shop. Hired Bikes from Marrakech Roues two Yamaha xt250's in decent condition but well used. Got Morocco Sims in phone and set off on the 1/2 terrifying 1/2 fun ride out of town. With the atlas in view in the distance, several coffee stop after we got to Ijoukak along the RN7. Found a nice place to stay enjoyed a tagine and slept the sleep of the dead. Next day fueled up and followed route J3 in Morocco overland into the Atlas, bloody hell if you haven't been you need to. Found some snow to play in. Arrived in Taliouine found place to stay, started refusing Tagines. Next day over Issil pass. Spent night in Anzal, then after that an off-road route to Ouzazette followed by a road ride to Talouet and over Tizzi n Ticha pass before rolling back in to the chaos of Marrakech the next day...never ridden off-road before and only dropped it once!! I did wake up with a start in the middle of the first night when I remembered I forgot the pump despite having spare tubes and tire irons etc...I neglected to tell my mate ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Those XT250s are about the only lightweight trail bikes to rent in Marrakech right now.
The next thing up might be a clapped out 310GS, KTM 390 and a Him 450, neither of which come close to the agility of an XT.
If the XTs were tubeless they'd be perfect.

Fyi I've written up some guidelines about renting motos out if Marrakech:
