I had all the tools with me .. except a rear stick support .. lesson learned, I made one out of 2x1 now .. so it didn't even enter my mind to call my breakdown assistance. even though I managed to get to tarmac.

It was much harder than I expected, and I made some bad decisions like laying it down on the axle nut side, but I eventually got through it.

Lesson.. always carry a swing arm stick support.

Tbh it was a week ago or so, so not too cold .. for winter.

The tyre? .. not too bad .. That was down to the 2 longish (1 foot?) Apico michelin-style levers, which have a little knob on the end .. oo err .. This catches the wire type Bead nicely and the lever is strong, and light. Used with the other one plus my little one, it got lifted off quite easily.

I had a hd tube inside.. but it was covered in that black oily moose lubricant.. which made everthin worse. THE wisemoose, Was cCrap so I had gone back to tubes. It would have been Fine if I'd brought a stick thing.

The hardest part was getting the spacers in, but that's difficult even in a garage. Either way, I do this stuff on my own anyway .. so I'm used to it ..... lucky it wasn't raining and that I beat the dark.

Just to add .. the tyre was a bit warm from running on it for nearly a mile .. very slowly, of course .. but thinking back .. I was lucky the canvas held.

Tyres these days are so hard compared to before.
And it is difficult to find Tube Tires.
=> You put on a modern TL tire that is hard as....

25 Years ago. Change tyres was an easy task.

Well done Gary for the roadside repair. I seem to average about 2 a year, and usually cut a stick to prop the bike up.

I didn't have my handsaw with me .. Lesson learned .
Also, I didn't realise it was so difficult with bike flat on the ground. And I'd put it down on the wrong side, so I couldn't get the axle nut off.
The 250Rally is too heavy now, being an oap.
Must start training.

Hi Gary, well done.
I must admit that I had tried all sorts of levers in the past, then gave some short 'Motion Pro' ones a try.
Can't be more than 20cm long at the most and fit in my tool roll.
Considering before I used to use ones that were at least 35+cm long, the MP ones are bloody amazing. They
are also nice and wide, so nice to handle, but most importantly, I havn't had to fight any tyre to get it off.
They are also made of aluminium so rim damage/ scratching is minimal. I still carry an extra, short, lever as a 'third hand'
for starting and finishing getting the tyre on/off, but the MP levers do all the hard work.
Wouldn't consider anything else now.

Just a tip.
