I believe most are not using panniers needing frames. Such a "light" bike is better suited to soft panniers mounted with straps.
Austin Vince is here showing how to advnturise CRF250L. He has decades of experience travelling on light weight bikes. Including twice around the world (I think).

Re: What pannier frames on your Crf 250 rally
my CRF rally has outback mototrek ones pretty standard stuff although they appear good quality. I bought the bike with them fitted so cannot comment how easy they were to fit etc. for this particular setup, the CRF arsend is already wide, pipe and excess plastic one side and toolbox the other add pannier rails to this complete with a little clearance for mounting hardware it gets wide not an issue unloaded, but with 16 litre bags on each side which are barely medium sized IMO it starts to become an issue. Picture a typical 3 rut lane with banks each side and you can not ride the middle (bike rut) where you want to be, your in the left or right the bags are in the bank regularly, getting damaged and pushing you off balance, an inherent problem with this setup but I suspect more so on this bike. I have done a fair bit with this setup on a GS12 and 640A and suspect it may be the worst, saying that the GS does not have any pannier rails soft bags fit pretty well without the need the standard framework allowing good fixing.
OK my thoughts my 640 also came with proper looking pannier frames I really did not like the width they added either, looking at the design its clear the dimensions are to accomodate a pillion and hard box's I carry neither, so I made my own with a bit of banging, bending, welding, turning and laughing from my mates. they are alot further forward and as tight to the bike as is possible and have worked well. In my setup the weight goes over the seat and the main function of the frames is a tying off point for the bottom of the bags to inhibit them from flapping out on rough ground, any movement of the bags creates excess stress on fixings/stitching etc and failure ensues. my preference is to be without frames ideally, but at the moment I need them on untill I find a better solution for my purpose. Your needs may be different to mine so my experience maybe invalid, if so I would consider selling mine complete with the full set of Kriega bags and backplate that I have not used except for the return journey from buying the bike pics below. Any other info I can help with please ask buying or otherwise.

Re: What pannier frames on your Crf 250 rally
my usual bags no more available in the UK so it seems, note I prefer to add a webbing strap around each and another taking the majority of the weight through those two over the seat as conventional throughovers, and extra touratech light straps for final security a bit of a faf to load but completley solid.
hope somebody found something usefull.- Mactavish
