XT660R should be fine for what you say you need. One other to consider is the XT600E - notably lighter & simpler, whilst also well proven for durability. I used mine for a commute of 30 miles on A and B roads, and it handled mild off-road stuff (ie. unmade tracks) very well. But, getting a good one may now be more difficult.
My current XT660Z was a great commuter, with a distinctly higher riding position, and it copes ok with the same mild off-road stuff albeit it's notably (top) heavier (I would choose the 600 any day for off-road). The 660 copes far better with autoroutes and cruises comfortably at 80/85 mph whereas the 600 would get breathless at not much over 70/75.

XT660R is a great bike. I'd maybe look at a DRZ too, they are great fun.

Is there a thread about Yamaha TTR 600, or TTR in general ? I'm going to see one on Sunday, apparently in VGC. Owner prepared for a trip that never happened. So i was told.

Edit: found couple of ttr threads. Should.make.good evening reading.

Welcome Illmor, how about the CRF 250 / 300 variants? Plenty around, easily good enough for a 20 min commute and very capable off road even for the bigger rider

Cheers
Harv

Within distance i'm willing to travel, there is 2009 honda crf450x and 2013 husqvarna te310r. So far most of the bikes are too far. I still have 4weeks, until my mate takes my cbf1000 off me.

I've got a Givi monokey rack and arms for sale for a CBF1000...£20...just thought I'd mention that...

Also, if you are planning to tour on it, I'd recommend investing in a spare 'Stator' for about £100 to take with you...it's a known weak point on the bike but a simple 30 minute fix on the roadside...with a tube of instant gasket as well... 8-).

What price are you looking for?
I just bought Honda SH150i with 134km, to use for my 15 mile all tarmac work commute. Great toy. Up to 40mph in the blink of an eye. Then acceleration reduces. :D It's more than enough for the speed limits on my commute.
KTM390 is also a hoot. Try the Duke, there are plenty for sale at a good price so they should be easy to find. Adventure should fit your size.

No more than i'll get for my cbf1000. About 3200 pounds. I'm in EU. I'd like at least 250 - 400 cc.
