After some umming and ahrring (is that how you write that?) I went for a nice new pair of Sidi Performance road boots. Somewhere between full sports and comfy touring. So far I've worn them around the kitchen and I haven't fallen off yet...

Thanks but too late now, chaps. I've bought the Sidis above. It's always tempting to go for the best of everything, but in practice I'll only wear these boots for, maybe, 5000kms per year? So they just have to be protective and comfy. I've had Sidis as road boots before and they were great, so these should be fine.

+1 for Daytona, I’ve got a couple of pairs, bought in 1998 and still going strong… sort of anyway. They’re kinda like Grandads spade though,3 resoles by the factory, and a replacement gear change protector, but the uppers, zips and liners are still going strong.
Superb boots, comfortable and hard wearing.

With all the recommendations for Daytona boots, I got myself a new pair of “Daytona Journey GTX” bike boots this weekend from the Sportsbike shop in Leeds, they are more of a summer season ventilated boot with a gortex liner, so hopefully no more sweaty feet while riding in warmer temperatures.
