Ktm 390 adv anyone had a go one one?

Post by adventure steele »

Hey everyone hope we are all well just wondering has anyone had a go on the KTM 390 Adventure :)

If so what did you think interested to hear from any Himalayan owners who have had a go on one.

Just sussing the bike out for my dream Norway trip once the rd250c is sold.

Was initially thinking 1150gs or a gsa, had a 1200gsa 800gs an a 1000xt in the past.

Thanks in advance,

I had a one as a loan bike when my 790 went in for a service, my partner has a Himalayan, so some experience...definitely better than the Himalayan but not as good as the 790...to be expected. I found the motor to run out of puff on highway speeds, it seemed a tall bike too..a decent first bike or commuter bike..but as an adv bike I would think you’d be better with a few more cc’s...
Just as a side note my partner has now PX her Himalayan in for a 790 having had a go on mine and realised what she was missing..

KTM and Husqvarna are looking at releasing an adventure spec 500cc bike in early 2022.

Probably a 'KTM490R' or a 'Huskie 501R' or something like that.

Sounds interesting. Just hope they don't f*ck it up, like Honda did with the CRF450. Needs to be a proper dual sport, long-distance capable bike which weighs less than 135kgs, About 45bhp, reliable, long service intervals, good quality enduro suspension and proper protection.

Let's see what they actually produce.

Honda CB500X and a chat with Rally raid if you want the coffee stop cred of spoked wheels and improved suspension or just a set of Heidenau K60s if you're not that bothered and want to ride forest tracks.
Decent performance, decent economy, decent tank range. And it's a Honda, so it won't ever throw a diva's hissy fit at the side of the road.

Hondas aren’t perfect.
On a Wiltshire trip one of our group was on a CRF 250 adv (?) .... an innocuous drop in a shallow rut shifted the gear lever shaft over enough to jam it in 1st.

Mind you, my earlier argument with a rut and adjacent bank had bent the handlebar bolt on my 690 enduro back far enough that I couldn’t stand up on the pegs. I managed another 40 miles before giving up and found it was a fun road bike, came home and bought the Husky for the trails.

True, if you hit them hard enough they will break. 😉
