Harleys bought in the US and shipped to Spain by some importers have reportedly then been sent to privately owned MOT centres that have been willing to turn a blind eye to the legal requirements for vehicles in Spain."

I used to knock H-Ds too, if only for being over-awed by the non-biking masses. In 1986, one of my buddies bought the 883 Sportster and whilst it didn’t float my boat, I did appreciate it’s simplicity and the ‘pure’ motorcycle concept without any bells & whistles (yeah, a Harley, really!).

Sometimes I come across posts on the various forums stating a wish list for the ultimate overlanding motorcycle. They nearly always state that a simple, reliable, air-cooled, low maintenance engine putting out around 50-60bhp and returning 60mpg+ would be ideal. This pretty much describes the Sportster engine!:blink: ....but we had better not mention the other ideals of light weight and ground clearance :unsure:

i love the low reving engine with the big toque.
just done a iron butt run 1044mls in 24hrs and could still walk .

theres a lot of very serious riders that ride the big twin

very true john ,ive been riding in a certain riders club for a fiew years now,;-)

I can see why HDs are popular in Spain .... the EU gives big subsidies to Spain for farming equipment such as this...
