Greetings,
It sounds almost weird and macabre but you are quite right there is a whole load of social history to be found in these places.
I have visited the big three in Paris;
http://www.pariscemeteries.com (there used to be a day time Police presence at Jim Morrison's resting place at Pere Lachaise cemetery) Buy a local paper guide as they have a load of interesting facts and things to look out for.
plus Highgate in London;
https://highgatecemetery.org you need to book for a tour for the West one;
https://highgatecemetery.org/visit/cemetery/west
The symbolism and architecture are fascinating and intriguing, however I hope that it is a long time off before any of us take up residence. I think that Spike Milligan had the best line; "I told you I was ill". I might go for something along the way of "bugger! ran out of petrol"

Similarly, the chapels of private schools or army garrison towns are fascinating, with plaques usually from family and friends commemorating the loss of young soldiers all over the world and from every war or conflict you can think of.
Very evocative and very moving.

Hello again,
One of the interesting points in the Peak District is that Maurice Oldfield, who was the son of a local tenant farmer, was head of MI6 from 1973 - 1978 and is thought to be the inspiration for one of the characters in 007. He lived in the village of Over Haddon, close to Bakewell, and is buried in St Anne's churchyard.
Another piece of useless information off my conveyor belt of a brain cell

Also in the Peak District...Eyam churchyard...a monument to the ordinary people of the village who decided to stay and take their luck with the Black Death, rather than flee and spread it. To this day, some of the people in the village show a rare natural immunity to the Black Death.
Bravery takes many different forms
