The other week l rode Salter Fell with a few mates, & l would like to try some more trails but would need a suitable bike so:-
Serrow 250 bringing £3.5K for a good one is it legal to ride with only a KPH speedo l did google it but no definitive answer?
Honda CRF250L or Serow I'm not the lightest guy in the world would they be powerful enough for me as I'm bigger than the average bear?
WR450F would something like that be better for me or to powerful?
There is only room for one bike in my life so l have to make the right decision, one of my mates suggested l lower the gearing on my CCM SR-40 but to be honest it's to nice & the alloy tank is a disaster waiting to happen!! Trouble is if l get a nice bike will l want to throw it at the scenery? Most of my riding is around the Dales l can't see me venturing to far afield these days but how are any of the above if used mainly on the road?
As the CCM has the DRZ400 engine in anything less l may feel is a tad slow?
Any other suggestions re bikes ie DRZ? I saw a nice Kawasaki KLX? at the bike meet at Wray last night but l know nowt about them to be honest?
And before l get the "make you own mind up" replies yes l am a indecisive person & believe me it's not easy!!

I can only answer for the CRF250L - I'm 6'2" and somewhere over 20 stone (cough ) and my CRF has never failed to haul me up anything I've asked it to including doing the MCC Lands End Trial this year. I can cruise tarmac at around 65mph with standard gearing so it's not exactly slow - I wouldn't want to ride autobahn on it but it mastered the M5 for a good few miles.
As for KPH speedo's I've had imported bikes in the past with KPH speedos and never had any problems at MOT time.

KM speedo's are fine - it's typical to stick some stickers on for the mile speeds, ie 30, 40, 50, but I'm not sure it's a legal requirement just convenient.

The DR-Z is slow on the road because Suzuki stupidly went for a 5-speed close-ratio box. The predecessor DR350S has a six-speed box making it far superior.
Avoid the Yam 450: it's too much for the average person.
You can't go wrong with a well-kept KTM EXC400, providing you don't want to do too much on the road.
The KLX 250 can be considerably improved at now cost by disconnecting the switch under the clutch lever, which magically derestricts it!
Yam TTR250s are currently good value for money. The Serow is great if you are small.

Unfortunately small I'm not!! But l do like the Serow 250 though.

Like others said, you can't go wrong with the CRF250 that Cowling is selling, low miles and mint condition, will do all that you want to do, plus he's not too far away from you :whistle: :whistle:

One small obstacle is l haven't advertised the CCM yet!!

Although the CRF is by no means fast, it certainly isn't woeful. What it does have is a surprising amount of torque for the bhp & is practically unstallable. The suspension will struggle with your weight & you would likely need to upgrade. A terrible enduro bike but a pretty good trail one (thumbs)

Theres a bargain Serrow 250 advertised on the TRF website, low mileage £2000.

crf or klx will probably suit you better if your a bigger unit ..the serrow is pretty low so standing fom seated will probably be a effort ..

underestimated the crfs a guy on a crf 250rally has justfinished the gibralter race 14 days from bulgaria on a standard bike apart frm a zorst and new rear shck

...he finished 2nd in the 450 and under class :woohoo:
