Just seen the news you might want a quick look if your passing through Calais any time soon

Last time we went through Calais in the car it was bloody frightening & it looks like it's got worse, we always use Dunkerque these days only a little further up the coast but a lot safer.

It'll be so much better when we're out of the EU and they all decide to go to Ireland instead.

Even the Mayor of Calais is now saying that the French Government aren't doing enough about it. There are 1000 French Police there but working 3 shift patterns so only 300 on duty at anytime hmy: .

with the present political climate in France I'm stunned they are allowing this to happen, not good for tourism surely ?

Going through by bike on Tuesday. Confronted with a situation like that video, either ride through a gap without stopping and open throttle, or pull a U turn and head back the wrong way up the carriageway. If hitting a traffic queue on approach to Calais don't filter straight to the front, hang back until you know what's causing the hold up.

The far right and nationalist parties are on the rise. The current government doesn't want to appear to be too heavy-handed as they are broadly socialist. The French are miffed with GB and therefore I think they are perpetuating the problem at Calais because they know it annoys us. French Tourism is unaffected due to the vast number of entry points into their country and the sheer size of it (city breaks excepted due to terrorism concerns). That just about sums it up.
