Hi
Im known to everyone as Skip.
Im from Newry in N.Ireland. I found this site by accident, i was searching for information about a new sump guard for my super tenere and this site came up. Looks really good and i though i would register to join in the chat.
About me im a sales rep for a cleaning products company pretty dull if im honest but it pays the bills. I have been riding motorbikes for over 10 years now started like most riders im sure with sports bikes and have evolved over the last few years to adventure touring bikes.
I have toured all the island of ireland many times including the wild atlantic way and have been touring the scottish highlands and islands. Not as hardcore adventure as some people on here but a long term aim is to make it to morocco one day!
I currently have two bikes:
1. Yamaha 1200 super tenere - love it, powerful machine, feels like my first sports bikes. Really comfy and can cover big miles no probs. I would not take it off road as my skill with such a large and heavy bike would not be great. Although i have taken it on gravel forest tracks in Donegal but nothing hard. I find it is the best of both worlds sports bike like performance with adventure styling and an up right seating position.
2. Yamaha XT660R - I got this bike a while ago with hardly any miles on it with the intention of going to morocco with my mate on his KTM. This bike i find a heck of a lot more manageable on more difficult terrain. I didnt think i could do some of the routes in morocco on my heavy super tenere so thats why i bought it. Trip has never happened yet but maybe one day... Did quite a lot of modifications to it for the planned trip and it just sits in my garage now waiting for that day it goes to morocco.
Cheers everyone

Hiya Skip, welcome!
Are you going to make the Ireland ABR rally then? I'm on the ferry to Dublin tomorrow, then swanning around looking for the sun, Guiness and trout for a few days before setting off for the camp site. Perhaps see you there.
Steve.

Hi Steve
I have just finished reading the ABR Ireland thread there now sounds good. Unfortunately i will be at the Cookstown 100 road races this weekend. Its a pity they both clash because i would definately have been up for it. If you have time early on Friday i would highly recommend you make a stop for a few hours. Roads close at 12 mid day on friday. Irish road racing in my opinion is the purest rawest motorsport out there. Forget the isle of man TT with 1 bike every 10 seconds and all the commercialism this is mass starts of 20 or more 1000cc superbikes battling around country back roads normally used by farmers in tractors and the primary school bus. And you lying in the hedge inches from the bikes as they fly past. Amazing spectacle!

Just down the road from you outside Banbridge
If you have time why don't you pop over to the Shepherds Rest where you can meet some of the Ireland forum members.
Keep a regular eye on here as there will be postings for local ride outs from time to time (thumbs)
I'm sure our paths will cross soon if you cant make it.
