Hi guys. I was looking at a 14 plate XT1200Z at the weekend. One owner from new, centre stand, Yamaha panniers, rear hugger, fender extender, blue, 7,500 odd miles. Bikes in very good condition and looks like it's only seen dry miles. It's not the "updated" version with the all LCD dash and different pipes. It's had two services done. I noticed that there was some oil seepage from one of the two breather pipes that exit down by the footpegs. The pipes look to go up towards the tank. Is this normal? My bikes breathers don't show this and that's 16 years old with 77,800 miles on it.
Also have any of you ridden or owned both versions? What's the difference apart from the dash, pipes and cruise control etc. Is it worth stumping up the extra cash for a newer one or is the older one just as good, and save the difference for farcles?
Thanks.

Re: Yamaha Super 10 owners
Cant really answer much of that to be honest as I have the older version and am happy with it. No oil seep on mine and the first thing that went to the loft were the panniers as my 20 year old givis are a better product imo. Buying a late pre upgrade bike is only a problem when trading in I guess as the dealer will beat the price down but if its a keeper then that should work in your favour too when buying.

Mine is a 14 plate "older" blue one, (The fastest colour)
Those pipes fit on to the underside of the tank and need to be slackened off slightly at the base of the engine when you hinge the tank up. mine have never leaked either. As mentioned before, the OEM panniers are not the best!
They all come with a centre stand as standard, so its hardly a selling point the shop should be using.

Too often I would hear men boast of the miles covered that day, rarely of what they had seen.- Louis L'Amour

The post 2014 bikes with the digital display and no link pipe between the down pipes have 2bhp more and dont have the restriction for the emmisions test in the first 3 gears.
the ZE also get cruise control and the electric adjustable suspension.
My 2011 has well over 60000 miles on it now. (thumbs)

Re: Yamaha Super 10 owners
It will be fine, with that milage its not even run in .
Can't imagine where the oil on the bottom of the pipes has come from , as i think maybe they are fuel tank breathers / airbox , and such, maybe someone spraying the Ac50 about.
These are reliable beasts and will give you great fun and long service if you look after it.
If the price is right , go for it. Travel the world ! (thumbs)

Re: Yamaha Super 10 owners
Thanks guys... After a bit of research it seems one of the pipes goes to the airbox. Some pictures on ADV site show oil in the airbox from the crankcase. Possibly over filled with oil and it's vented off into the airbox and dripping out of the pipe. It was definitely wet with oil as my finger got covered in it when I checked it out.
I was also looking at the KTM990 and Varadero. I've rulled out the KTM as I want to start to do long distance trips. The Vara is a lovely bike in my eyes, but it's a discontinued model.
I love the look of the S10. So that's what I'm after. The dealer wants too much in my book. 14 plate, 7,327 miles. £8,699! The previous owner got it from On Yer Bike and they were selling them for £9,500 brand new. It's got LED lights fitted, but no switch so don't know if the previous owner has wired it into the lights and they stay on all the time or only come on with high beam. Do these bikes have a plug and existing loom for auxiliary lights as you can buy them with the Yamaha spots from new?
