Recommend me a battery for R1200GS(A) 2008

Post by Philiptigerrice »

As above really - my battery is holding its charge less well, and at eight years old deserves a retirement, am looking to replace but not really sure what to get.

Spent £45 on a Yousa battery for the wifes ER6f recently as recommended by a mechanic, and really noticed the difference.

I'm doing regular, cold, 400 mile trips, then not getting on the bike for a few weeks - not the healthiest lifestyle for a battery - and I'm worried I'll get to the bike to head home one day - and will be knackered - a replacement, that I can keep conditioned from new, will reassure me a lot.

Any recomendations?

Am looking at the Odyssey - and the Motobatt Quadflex... (1/2 the price!)

Apparantly the Odyssey needs some adjustment or faffing to fit though???? :S

I fitted an Odyssey to my 1150GS four years ago, worth the slight fiddle to fit.

Had a Motobatt on my Yam, lasted 14 months and dead.

Gotcha - what IS the fiddle required for the Odysey though?

The Odysey is deeper than the standard battery. You need to turn the earth lead round to fit on the terminal. The opposite direction of the way it's connected as the OEM battery.

My opinion. Buy a jap battery as the Odysey is not all it's cracked up to be.

I can't recommend one Phil, but what I can say is DO NOT BUY A MOTOBATT.
Mine was on a charger all winter and was flat when I came to try it.

:(

Its too late... I've ordered the Motobatt one.

Out of interest, a mechanic I know, who recommended it - did mention that there's a fair few fakes about and to not buy one off eBay etc - and only to go through reputable companies - could you have had knock offs?

Anyhoo - too late now - the moneys gone to Wemoto... I do ride all year around, so we'll see how she goes.
