Ireland tour

Post by greyhoundgriff »

Evening All
Thinking of trip to Ireland this year.
Leave UK on a Friday, return late Monday. Thinking of April time, 4 bikes and riders.
What do you advise?
Happy to do 300 + per day
Where's the best destinations? Depending on weather will camp or pub accommodation circa £50 a night.
All advice welcome.
Cheers

In the short time you have I would say just get to the west coast as fast as you can and ride some of the Wild Atlantic Way.IMO 300+ miles a day on Irish roads is a bit optimistic unless you stick to boring roads. If you do the Ring of Kerry I would definitely recommend Mannix Point campsite at Carishaveen. The most luxurious campsite I've ever stayed at! As said. Make a bee line for the Wild Atlantic Way and do a section of it at your lesiure. No shortage of accomodation on the route-from wild camping to hotel,

Enjoy

As Heff said, any suggestions depend on which ferry port and ETA you're planning, as you've only 4 days.

Afternoon All
Thanks for that :)
Ill guess will be going from Stranraer to Larne.
then back Dublin to Holyhead.
Irish mate says Glens of Antrim to Donegal then down the coast?
All in thoughts at moment, so may extend a day or two if needed.
cheers

The Glens of Antrim through Cushendall, Ballycastle, Bushmills are spectacular but very slow going even in April, lots of agri traffic and people with all the time in the world. Once your over the Foyle it slows down even more !!!

I think you would want at least one more day if it's not just going to be a slog on main roads. The last time I did Ireland from Stranraer I got off the evening ferry and camped in the Glens of Antrim,Donegal was another days ride and then Clifden (nice place) in the Connemara National Park,Galway was my next stop.Clifden-Ring of Kerry was another days ride and then you would probably have another night somewhere heading for home.
