The same thing happened two years ago.
Assumption then was low voltage spike affecting the ignition processor, I know sounds a bit unlikely.
Just back from a two week wander about Germany, which was a bit wet in places.
So charged up the battery and put more petrol in the tank, still did not start on full throttle.
Connected the car battery in parallel with bike battery and tried to start at full throttle, still did not start.
Pulled the fuel pump fuse and ran the engine on the starter a few times to dry the spark plugs, still did not start.
Car battery connected up and tried another key, started first time.
So tried the original key again and the bike started!
Conclusion, damp in the system somewhere?
Or maybe Yamaha want us to visit a dealer at least every two years, well if Volkswagen can run that special test software on their cars!

Re: Super ten will not start, again
Weird that innit. I saw the post and thought aha I can help here but you had done it all
Possibly may be time to go through stuff like kill switches, side stand cut out, gear sensor, etc but you wont know if you have cured it for another two years. I think the 660 has a tilt sensor so the dealer can tell if you have had a lie down, maybe they now beam a pulse from a satellite to your bike when work is slack.

Re: Super ten will not start, again
Is the starting on full throttle a super ten thing?
I thought ALL fuel injected engines will only start and run properly started on a closed throttle.
Just curious....

Re: Super ten will not start, again
WOT does work on them and a cleverer man than me could probably tell you why. If you are working on the bike and turn the ignition on and off a few times without running the bike the fuel pump can prime repeatedly and flood it. The answer is to have the kill switch off so it cant prime but that means this bear of little brains has to remember it. Wot will normally get it going with a good battery, bit like two strokes. It has happened to mine twice now.

Re: Super ten will not start, again
Yes you are supposed to start the bike on a closed throttle.
When I was coming off the Newcastle ferry the bike would not start on a closed throttle but started on full throttle.
This has happened to other people with Super Tens but it is very random and difficult to trace the root cause.
I feel we have not got to the bottom of this problem and will carefully check the electrics for any weak spots for water ingress when I strip the bike down for its winter check over.
Usually with a bike if you have fuel, a spark and spin the engine it will start even if the mechanicals are in poor condition, my bike has only done about 18,000 miles.

Re: Super ten will not start, again
This is a known problem on the S10, don`t know how widespread but it exists, touch wood no problem in 14,000 miles  when you turn the ignition on I hear the fuel pump prime and maybe if you keep turning it on and off it can flood and then WOT will hopefully start it  loads of stuff on the S10 forum and this is the latest have heard about a guy who kept the starter turning for a couple of minutes and the starter overheated and the bike caught fire
hmy: but don`t worry too much as not as prevalent as drive shafts falling apart on a certain make of bike

Re: Super ten will not start, again
I used to have the same problem on my S10.
I had my S10 remapped, and problem did not recur, not sure if this was a happy
coincidence or if the remap addressed the core problem

Re: Super ten will not start, again
Same happened with a mates bike,
My theory was low battery voltage ,slow initial crank floods it,
If the battery is low ,don't try and start it,charge first (thumbs)

True it does turn over slowly, took some getting used to after my 800gs that turned over so fast I always thought it was going to detonate :laugh:mikeyboy wrote:Same happened with a mates bike,

Re: Super ten will not start, again
Low battery voltage, low voltage spikes was my original conclusion, but since I am using a car battery in parallel with the bike battery, both fully charged suspect that this not the root cause of the problem.
It would be interesting to see if anyone using the remapped software has seen this problem.
