ABR Ireland Historical Run

Post by Moorso »

Hi All

I've posted a few things to the Norn Iron ABR group board, but putting the feelers out here for the mooted Historical Run that some had said they'd be interested in.

Unfortunately, I had a bit of minor surgery last week on my left leg (calf) and got the stitches out this morning, but it appears to have re-opened (sorry for the detail, but it means I won't be riding for a bit!).

Heff and Flintock are away in mid Sept to the Pyrenees (jammy gits!) and I go to Tenerife. SO...am mooting the first weekend in October if that suits and weather dependent.

There is a list of potential sites on the group page and I have included a map below. Using the provided bikehike.co.uk/ that was suggested on another page here, I've also included a rough GPS route for those that want it.

Am suggesting meeting up at Carrickfergus Castle car park, then travelling round Antrim.

Let me know thoughts, possibilities, interest etc.

Maybe we'll work around and tie down firm dates / committments at a later stage.
It'll also be weather dependent as trapsing round sites in the pissing rain isn't exactly a fun day out - you can't see them all that well and you certainly can't see their context within the landscape!

But good that there's interest!

We did 90% of that route in 2013 and its awesome...as you say in good weather. A lot of nice stopping places too. Last year we did all round Strangford, then someone asked about Ballycastle so we just carried on! No matter how often you do it you will never be bored on it or give it a miss because you have done it before.

Wish I could make it but we have a similar plan set down for earlier in September. Just trying to sort accommodation at the moment. Last year we used Kilmorey Arms Hotel at Kilkeel after we got a special deal.
