Which tyre plug?

Post by -Ralph- »

Had to plug a 1 day old Michelin Pilot Road 4 on Saturday.... bugger!

Still, I'm glad I was carrying the plugging kit.

What in your opinion and experience is the best plug type, and do you consider them to be a permanent repair?

I also repaired a one or two day old Tourace a while ago with the sticky strips! Used the tyre until it was dead, including a 3000 mile European trip and a fair bit of offroad. Never lost any air! So yes, it was a permanent fix for me!

I've used the top 2 and found the BMW type which came with my Multistrada worked best. The stop n go needed 2 attempts but that may have been operator error

What is it that decides which one you are going to need?

Hole, as mentioned

If it's a nail or screw, pull it out and use a mushroom plug

If it's a small tear/gash the rat's tails work best

On a recent puncture the rat's tails worked best, because it was a tear

Having all 3, makes sure you have a best chance of sorting it and the all fit in the same pouch and use same tools

Gonna have to have a look at the Dynaplug now, too
