Ok,
I'm changing gearing on the bike from 16/48 to 14/48
If I've calculated right that changes gearing from 3-1 to 3.43-1 increasing torques by 12.5% .
So, what gear ratio do you run and do you think I'll notice a difference ??

P.S. I've got the oval sprocket flange on order too from DSS . (thumbs)

Notice a difference...........you'll be climbing up brick walls & reving the nuts off it to get anywhere fast :woohoo:

I'm using 15/44 (stock is 15/45 for the non indicator & chain guard ones) with a genuine Honda front (£29) & new flange so mines a bit faster & lower revving on the road - but still fine on the trails

Another road option is 15/40 which is stock on the German ones with indicators & chain guards which found their way as official bikes from Honda, which is way better (faster) on the road and ok on open trails

14/48 is way too low & I would only use a genuine Honda 15t on the front anyway

13/48 is Honda XR 250 stock gearing but that has a 6speed box & different gearbox ratios

As Picos says you have put on slow Trials style gearing

Have a look at web site gear calculator for a excel spreadsheet...

One on thumpertalk....

And very low front sprockets can eat the front swingarm ...

Valve stem oil seals..........
Hard job or not for a fairly competent DIY type ?
Don't know whether to tackle them now or wait until after the Pyrenees trip.

She's not visibly smoking , but using a small amount of oil and the number plate is all covered in black soot.
I'll stick a picture up when I get a chance. The bike hasn't had much use over the last 2 years and I just assumed the seals may have hardened.

Check the cylindrical oil filter, upstream of the front downtube drain bolt - it may need a good clean out

A partially clogged oil screen would not cause it to burn oil and smoke.

You are more likely to be looking at Sticky/ worn oil control ring, or leaky valve seals
