Hi,

I've got some spare time the end of the week and start of next and will be in that part of the country, what advice suggestions would you give for a day on Salisbury plain? Routes, interesting places to see etc.

Big bike, so nothing too outrageous.

Get your self the OS map, I think this is the one you need:

Then go there and ride around. I doubt there is an easier place in the country to find the trails. There are two abandoned villages in there to explore. A long straight byway with tanks off to one side. All the straight trails on the plain that I have been along have been pretty big bike friendly. (thumbs)

I will be going out on 28/5 for a little mess about if that is any good to you.

The northern perimeter road is almost always open and if you fancy some bumpy bits then parallel to it is a tracked vehicle track which is now permissible as the signs have been moved back. I have done this on the S10 but stay out of any boggy bits as they can be a LOT deeper than you think

Yes to all that, I saw a triumph explorer and rider completely vanish beneath the depths of a 'puddle' at the rally last year. He emerged like the toxic avenger! That was the track beside the northern perimeter.

I could be tempted by a few days there 30th and 31st of may.

Which way you coming from?

I'll be in Southhampton and when finished heading home to Manchester, so thought why not make a detour and if happen to take 2 days longer.......

Go to Countess services on the A303. Head north on the A345fomr the services.

Go over a large and a small roundabout.

About half a mile later you will see a tank crossing with large metal posts painted yellow on top either side of the road. Take a left at the crossing and go enjoy.

That's all there is to it.
