Ive been using iMovie on a Mac, but it creates lots of copies and duplicates and puts them in places you've never heard of, so I'm looking for something different.
Preferably free
Easy to use
Doesn't create unnecessary files everywhere
Mac based
Any tips??
Thanks

ExRm - You must have been reading my mind! I have hours and hours of Go Pro footage from various trips but I just get lost in iMovie maker.
I might also have a bash at the one suggested above this post.

As far as I can work out, everytime you edit a movie or collection of clips, it saves a copy in the Library somewhere. I had 6 copies of the same thing!! All called something different, all of the same file size as the original....pain in the arse system....I nearly ran out of hard drive space.

GoPro Studio works well although footage from other cameras sometimes has to be converted before importing it in.
iMovie should tick the boxes for you though. I have not used it for a long time because I use FCPX. Check your iMovie preferences to see what you are importing, converting etc and to where. It is possible you are importing to one location but have iMovie Libraries somewhere else generating unnecessary duplicate files.
If you are using a GoPro, any software has to import and convert the footage before editing as GoPro's file format is not editing friendly. Even GoPro Studio does this. Something like MPegStreamclip will convert GoPro footage to something more friendly before importing to iMovie allowing you to delete the original footage easily.
If you do a search in finder you should be able to locate all the relevant files iMovie is creating. Info will tell you where and what they are. It is then easy to delete them.

I would highly recommend Final Cut Pro X. Its as easy or complicated as you want it to be. You can set up your own import preferences and its very easy to delete back up files when you've finished a complete movie.
There are also a lot of 'how to' videos on Youtube that are very helpful.
Best of luck!
